Picture 1: Evening running after work Thank you for the overwhelming support in the first part of my article. So the question now is that? How can you apply for work in Aussie as a doctor? What are some of the tips and tricks to tackle this? In order to arrive to this step, you must first be qualified to apply for a job as a doctor in Australia. This means that you need to be eligible to be registered with AHPRA. Please refer to the flowchart in my first article to learn more about this ( click here ). Once you are eligible to apply for a job, next you need to know these: Each of the states in Australia would have their own recruitment campaign that will usually be made known online between May to July each year. You would need to create an individual account for each of the health system, e.g. Victoria, Queensland, Northern Territory, etc in order to lodge your application with their state department of health. At this point of time, you must know which hospital in that state that you...
I was well until the 6th day of exposure. It was my off day, so I woke up rather late at 7am. It was not a pleasant morning to begin with. I had this nasal congestion with chesty cough and cold even with the aircond blasting at 24 degree celsius. My housemate is exhibiting similar symptoms too. So we then decided to do COVID test for ourselves and true enough, we were both positive that day.
So how's life in quarantine so far? Pretty chill if I must say. The past few weeks in medical been really crazy. I was the only person who is responsible for the life of 180 patients across 6 wards during my oncall, and the only doctor working for the week in my ward. Who would be surprised if I even catch COVID at the level of exposure that I have with all the patients? Hence, this quarantine is giving me much needed break from work although it is a boring and dreadful one.
My routine started at 6am in the morning during this quarantine. I would wake up and do the needful while waiting for the water to boil. I would then make myself a cup of coffee before browsing for early morning news on my iPad. I would do some light exercise with the barbell while I am at it. By 8am my housemate would wake up and I would already be in the shower. I would have small brekkie with twinges and other pastries while continuing my morning studies. Then by 10am it would be time for brunch. It would be a simple English big breakfast or a local brekkie like Nasi Lemak or chicken porridge.
By noon after lunch, I would be resting a bit while watching Netflix. Then it would be the time for a short 30 minutes power nap. I would take my 6 hourly dosage of Panadol Actifast to relieve my ongoing fever and headache. If my nasal congestion is getting worse I would slot in the Bisolvon as well. Studies have shown that Bisolvon and other mucolytic agent to reduce morbidity and mortality related to COVID, besides it provide me with comfort of not having nasal congestion.
When evening comes, I would be ready for my evening workout. My housemate would get the ingredient for dinner ready so we would take turn to cook our dishes for the dinner. By 7pm we would be finished with dinner and it would be time for chilling. Lots of Korean drama to catchup on Netflix. "Forecasting Love and Weather" is the hits at the moment and we would be binge watching this after dinner.
So I guess, that's about it, my third day of COVID quarantine. It is a perfect balance between trying to heal myself, rejuvenating from all the punishingly long working hours, while being productive to be ahead of my game when I come back to work again after this quarantine.
